NUEDC is a national English debating championship among Universities student, held by DIKTI every year. The participant is coming from all university students all over Indonesia, state university or private university. The system in this year is quiet different than the previous year. The previous system is that every state university is allowed to send their participant directly, without joining selection in regional level but now is different. Every university (state or private) should follow the regional selection first, and then go to the national level.
Mataram University held a selection to choose the best one as representative in regional level. It was held on April 8-9 2011. There are 16 teams who come from all faculties in Mataram University and additional participants are coming from UKM argUMent (English Debating Community Mataram University).
There two rounds in this selection, preliminary round and semi final round. Preliminary round was held on 8 of April with two sessions. And Semi final round was conducted On 9 of April with 8 best teams. The 8 best teams are team from Medical Faculty (Eka and Arum), FKIP A (Yana and Yani), FKIP B ( Soni and April ), argUMent A ( Ninin and Novi ), argUMent B ( Putri and Aya ), argUMent c ( Rozal and Ade ), argUMent D ( Dian and Dedi ) and argUMent E ( Yanti and Riky ). There are two rooms in semi final rounds and of course there are 4 teams each. The teams In room one are Medical faculty, argUMent A, argUMent B, and argUMent E. while in room 2 there are FKIP A. FKIP B, argUMent C and argUMent D. the motion in semi final round is “ THBT Nuclear power is not safe for human and environment “.
After waiting the adjudication assessment, there are two teams who are going to the grand final round from each room. Finally, adjudicators decide that the two teams from room 1 are from Medical Faculty and argUMent B. then the two teams from room 2 are from argUMent C and FKIP B. Gran Final Round was started at 11.00 am in Ruang Sidang Senat Rektorat and Acting as opening government team is medical faculty, acting as closing government is argUMent C, acting as Opening opposition is argUMent B and FKIP B as closing opposition. Big applause from audiences as a sign that the final round of NUEDC selection is begun under the motion “ THBT ASEAN Should Have Single Currency “. After one hour debating the adjudicators announce that it’s hard to decide the winner among of four teams because all teams have strength and weakness and the adjudicators provide one round again as the last round to decide the representative of Mataram University. The motion in the last debating is “THW make Organ Donation Compulsory At Death “.
Finally, after one hour debating for second round in Grand Final Miss Sausan on behalves of Adjudicators announces that the speakers who are lucky as the representative of Mataram University in Regional and National Level are the team from FKIP. The Speakers are Soni Ariawan ( English Department Student/ President of argUMent 2011 ) and Ahmad Aprillah ( English Department Student/ Co.Media in argUMent ). Congratulation for the winner,,,we are waiting you being the next winner in regional and national level. Keep your spirit up. Long Life argUMent..!!!
